TTRS's current Level Assessments, made up of a words preview (pretest) and words review (posttest) module, replace an older, optional spelling assessment system in which spelling tests could be generated by clicking on a button from the Level Overview screen.
How to find the original spelling tests
If you turn "Enable words review" off in settings, you and your students will have access to the original spelling assessment system instead.
Using the older assessment system
From an Admin or Teacher account
If you are an adult student or are using an Admin account, select a level from the dropdown list and then select Spelling Assessment to start.
From a Student account
From a student account, select the TTRS Course, choose an unlocked level, and then select the Spelling Assessment button at the top right of the screen.
Note: If a student needs to access a spelling assessment for a locked level, the admin or teacher will need to unlock levels for that particular learner. Learn how to do this here
During the assessment:
Your student will be presented with a blank screen and will hear the first word play
They should type the word and press enter on the keyboard to submit their response
They can press number 2 on the keyboard to repeat the word
They will not see the on-screen keyboard and cannot preview a word during a test
There will also be no red letters showing a mistake, unlike in a normal module
At the end of the test, they will be presented with a score and a list of words. Any mistakes will be shown alongside the correctly spelled word.
The test can be repeated as many times as required. When they repeat a test, the same words will be tested – and the score will show a comparison with the previous test.
To view previous test results, select the back button as shown below.
If the test is repeated at a later date, 20 random words will be generated again. Note, these may be different words than the first assessment and they may include word parts, articles or words beginning with a capital letter that appear in the level.
Locating test results
The list of all tests taken can be found under the My stats tab for the students, under Assessments --> Main course.
Note, if you or your student have Level Assessments turned on, but would like to view test results from this older system, simply click the View archive button at the top right of the assessment tab.
