What is a dictation module?

By default, every 5th module is a dictation exercise that relies on the auditory element to reinforce learning.

View a demo walkthrough of this feature or keep reading below.

Repeating a word

Press the number 2 on your keyboard to repeat a word or select the repeat word icon.

Showing a word

Hold down the number 5 your keyboard to show the word in a dictation module, or select the eye icon. Note, if you find your students are using the show word option too frequently, it can be disabled under the General settings tab of any Settings preset.

Turning any module into a dictation module

You can toggle the DICT icon next to any typing module to turn it into a dictation exercise. This is useful if you want to make the module more challenging.Β

Turning off dictation modules

If a dictation module is too challenging, you can turn it off by toggling the DICT icon off again.

Alternatively, you can turn all dictation exercises off for a learner if you find they're not ready for the audio only format and find these modules frustrating and demotivating.

Turning off all dictation modules in the course

To turn off all dictation exercises in the course, use the General settings tab of any Settings preset and toggle the "Enable dictation modules" setting.

To turn dictation modules off for an individual learner, open their settings using the Students tab from your Admin account. Select the learner from the list, use the Actions dropdown menu to view their personal Settings. Toggle "Enable dictation modules" off from the General tab and then hit the "Apply changes" button to save this update to their account.
